Introduction and Background

Welcome! If you’ve found your way here, you’re likely a fan of fantasy adventures, intricate magic systems, or perhaps you’re just curious about the person behind the words. To me, writing a novel is a lot like building a complex piece of software: it requires logic, structure, and a fair bit of "debugging" before it’s ready for the world.

By day, my world is defined by security protocols, code, and complex systems. With a PhD in Cyber Operations and over a decade spent deep in the trenches of cybersecurity and software engineering, I’ve spent my career thinking about how systems break, how code works at the assembly level, and how to make these complex systems and programs all function together.

You might wonder how a cybersecurity professional ends up writing about mages and the mythical world of Ilion. For me, the two aren't that different. Whether I’m designing classes for my code, reverse engineering malware, or testing my code, I’m obsessed with the "how" and the "why." I wanted to create a world where the magic has rules, consequences, and a logic that feels as real as the code running on your computer.

Beyond the professional and the creative, my "real world" is kept busy by my family. I’m a parent to two energetic kids and a husband to a beautiful wife. When I get some free time, I enjoy gaming alone or with some buddies. Some of the games have directly influenced my stories and magic systems from visuals, to spells, to just reminding me to keep making magic and putting it out into the world.

So what's next? I'm wrapping up edits on Into The Abyss which will be my first published novel and introduce everyone to the world of Ilion from the perspective of Drees, a young boy who discovers his water magic. I can't wait for you to read it!
