Drees was a boy of the Silver Marsh, destined for a life of salt-cured fish and the sturdy safety of his father’s nets. But the water answered him with an innate power he didn't seek and couldn't control. After a near-fatal accident left his lungs filled with marsh water and his mind filled with a dark, mocking voice, Drees realized his childhood was over.
Now a Water Mage in training at The University, Drees must navigate his pursuit of self-mastery and the darkness inside him. Alongside an alchemist with a heart of gold and a fire-mage obsessed with time, Drees faces a curriculum where failure means more than a bad grade, it means a total descent into madness. To become a powerful mage, Drees must conquer the voice that whispers he is "never enough" and find the strength to rise above the corruption of his own making.
